I came from a background of drawing.  When I discovered clay some years ago it felt like a natural progression into figurative sculpture, which is similar to drawing in 3D.

Besides an interest in producing useful and beautiful pots I love to use clay to explore the nuances of the human body and movement.  An expansion of this is that in sculpture, clay lends itself readily to combining with other mediums.

I suspect that many potters share with me a belief that clay imparts a spiritual quality, both therapeutic and developmental, to the artist using it.  Sharing enthusiasm for the mysteries and surprises of clay work is a joy in itself.

I am grateful for having had the opportunity to undertake a variety of ceramic courses at Coffs Harbour TAFE completing with a Diploma in Visual Arts in 2006.  Other studies - in art history, literature and languages, including Aboriginal languages, together with this beautiful coastal environment, inform my work.

I create one off pieces of ceramic figurative sculpture, and hand built aesthetically pleasing forms, which may stand alone, or compliment my paintings or drawings.  The flowing lines of each piece bring an energy and quality to any environment.

Some of these pieces have the unique and distinctive qualities of wood firing, where each piece has individuality due to it’s position in the kiln, and the amount of wood ash absorbed by the glazed or unglazed surface.

Some pieces are finished with slipped and burnished surfaces, which impart an earthy glow.

More recently I’ve been experimenting with low fired fibre clays, sometimes using multimedia surface treatments."
